Apache Blessing

This piece goes with the Old Gaelic Blessing. It is a southwestern Native American theme with an Apache Blessing. The corner motifs are of a sun, moon, rain, and an eagle. The sun is the Zia sun symbol with a significance of 4: the 4 cardinal directions, 4 seasons of the year, 4 seasons of life, 4 periods of the day, and 4 sacred obligations (strong body, clear mind, pure spirit, and devotion to the welfare of others). The moon is a symbol of the protector and guardian of the earth. Rain symbolizes renewal, fertility, and change. The eagle symbolizes courage, wisdom, and strength.
This is all hand-drawn except for the type.

Old Gaelic Blessing

Here is my latest piece of art I've finished. It is an old Gaelic blessing, a combination of Celtic knotting, digital print, and a mandala. All is hand-drawn except for the type.

Zendala #6

For this dare from The Bright Owl, I chose to go with monochromatic blue with a little pop of red. I added a second star to the back of the template to add more design and depth. The "yellow" is actually Sharpie's teal color and is from an older marker, so the color is probably faded, but I thought this color went well with the rest of the design even though it is not as monochromatic as I had originally envisioned.

Zendala #61

Here's my latest zendala I completed with a template from The Bright Owl. This one was inspired by Native American art. Enjoy!

Zendala Dare #5

I am a story artist, meaning I like my art to tell a story, so I tried to do that with this one. When I first saw this pattern from The Bright Owl, I thought of windmills. The theme for this zendala is the Netherlands. The "propeller" is a windmill. I chose to use green, because it is a green technology. I also think the green lets the windmill stand out, it is attached but detached. I hear they are tearing a lot of the windmills down in the Netherlands, so I wanted to give that effect. The country's flag colors are red, white, and blue. Two of their main exports are tulips (center) and gouda cheese, so I built  patterns with those two items in mind.
